Volunteer and Service Fair Offers Student Opportunities

Radford University's ninth annual Volunteer and Service Fair will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, on the Hurlburt Student Center Lawn. The fair will feature more than 20 community agencies and nonprofit organizations offering volunteer, service learning and internship opportunities for the coming academic year.

"RU students have spent thousands of hours working as volunteers in the area in years past," said Tim Filbert, assistant director of Academic Engagement and Career Services. "Both they and the community are better for the time and energy invested."

The Volunteer and Service Fair not only connects RU students with the area's nonprofits and service groups, it is a gateway to opportunity for students, Filbert said, adding that valuable work and personal experience can result from being a volunteer.

Among the organizations to be represented are the American Red Cross, Feeding America, Special Olympics Virginia-Southwest, Literacy Volunteers of the New River Valley and several hospice service providers.
