COBE Hosts Job-search and Career-building Event for Students

experience business casually participants

The third annual Experience Business Casually career development event will give students the opportunity to network with business professionals.

Radford University’s College of Business and Economics (COBE) will hold its third annual Experience Business Casually career development event Sept. 16. The event, open to all students, will feature alumni, business executives and friends of COBE who will give tips for succeeding in the job and internship market.

“We encourage RU students from all majors to take advantage of this one-of-a-kind professional development opportunity,” COBE Dean Faye Gilbert said. ”Experience Business Casually will allow RU students to get feedback on their professional image and skills during conversations with these successful alumni and business leaders.”

At each table or stop on the circuit, participating students will practice a given interview skill or discuss an aspect of the professional presentation with one of more than 30 professionals as a means of developing confidence and experience.

Students will be briefed on topics such as “Questions to ask an Employer,” “Dining Etiquette,” “Common Interview Questions” and “Making a First Impression.” Among participants will be representatives from Volvo Trucks, Carilion Health Systems, CGI Federal, Shelor Motor Mile and Dominion Virginia Power.

Students are encouraged to dress “business casual” for the event and to network with the representatives to compile “tip sheets” for future reference.

Experience Business Casually, from 11a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Whitt Hall lawn, is sponsored by First Bank of Virginia, Chartwells, Radford’s Office of Career Services and Community Engagement, and the COBE Advisory Council.  For more information, call COBE at (540) 831-5382.
