Staff Senate Creates "Keep’n It Green" Award

Radford University’s green drive rolls on, and the Staff Senate wants to create a place of honor on the bandwagon that is carrying the campus to new heights of environmental responsibility.

A new “Keep’n It Green" award will honor a classified staff member or 1,500-hour wage employee who makes a noteworthy contribution to the greening of the university.

“The staff senate has taken its communication and election efforts online to save paper and the "Keep’n It Green" award is one more way we hope to do our part to help RU be more eco-friendly,” said Pam Caldwell, staff senate president.

According to Caldwell, the award will recognize the Staff Senate member who contributes to Radford University’s sustainability initiatives in the following areas: energy and water conservation, waste reduction/recycling, economic impact, and behavior change and/or awareness.

The senate is developing a trophy made of recycled materials and a certificate of honor for the first winner of the "Keep’n It Green" award who will be named at the annual staff picnic on May 12, which, incidentally, will be a “Zero Waste” event.

To nominate a Radford University staff member for the "Keep’n It Green" award, get a nomination form by emailing the staff senate at its new address: staff_senate@radford.edu, or visiting the staff senate website at http://st_sen.asp.radford.edu/.
