University statement on Ross T. Ashley

Today Virginia State Police officials identified Ross T. Ashley as the subject responsible for the murder-suicide that occurred Thursday on the Virginia Tech campus. He has also been identified by the Radford City Police Department as the individual responsible for the theft of a white 2011 Mercedes SUV from a real estate office in the city of Radford on Dec. 7, 2011.

It has been confirmed that Mr. Ashley was enrolled part time at Radford University.  He was a business management major from Partlow, Va.

The entire Radford University community sends heartfelt condolences to everyone impacted by this tragedy and offers its full cooperation with the law enforcement agencies conducting the investigation.

No additional information on Mr. Ashley can be provided. All further details of this case will be released through the Virginia State Police.
