University Honors Grant Recipients at Fall Convocation

Radford University’s Fall Convocation included recognition of faculty and staff members who have been especially successful bringing in funds for research and service projects. Dr. Dennis Grady, dean of the College of Graduate and Professional Studies, said the seven people cited have raised more than $10.5 million during their years at Radford.

  • Dr. Elizabeth Altieri, associate professor in the School of Teacher Education and Leadership, College of Education and Human Development. Funding: $1.095 million from the Department of Education to prepare teachers to work with students with disabilities.
  • Dr. Kimberly Carter, professor and director of the School of Nursing in the Waldron College of Health and Human Services. Funding: $1.049 million from Carilion Medical Center for undergraduate and graduate programs in nursing.
  • Dr. Matt Dunleavy, assistant professor in the School of Teacher Education and Leadership, College of Education and Human Development. Funding: $1.030 million from the National Science Foundation and the Department of Education for research in augmented reality instructional games for elementary, middle and high school students.
  • Dr. William Kennan, vice provost for academic affairs. Funding: $1.580 million from the Department of Education for the Radford University Summer Residential Governor’s School for the Humanities and Social Sciences.
  • Dr. Joseph Scartelli, dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts. Funding: $1.489 million from the Department of Education for the Radford University Summer Residential Governor’s School for the Visual and Performing Arts.
  • Virginia Bussey and Mac MacArthur-Fox, co-directors of the Training and Technical Assistance Center, College of Education Human Development. Funding: $1.269 million from the Department of Education for support services and assistance to public schools and intervention personnel.
  • Dr. Leslie Daniel, assistant professor in the School of Teacher Education and Leadership, College of Education and Human Development. Funding: $3.044 million from the Department of Education for Project Merge, which helps special education teachers meet requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
