Three Finalists Announced in Radford University Provost Search

Radford University’s search for a new Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs has been narrowed to three candidates.

After carefully evaluating 65 qualified applications, a university search committee comprised of faculty, students and administrative members has selected Paul K. Kreider, Sam Minner and Mary Flannery Radosh as finalists for the position.  Candidates are scheduled to visit campus later this month, providing members of the Radford University community with multiple opportunities to interact with each individual.

"The goal of the Provost Search Committee has been to find a provost for Radford University who will nurture a campus culture grounded in the pursuit of academic rigor and student engagement, our tradition of service, consultative decision making and the university’s Code of Ethics," said Provost Search Committee Chair Margaret Hrezo.

Kreider serves as dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication at Western Illinois University in Macomb, Ill.  He also has served as professor and chair of the music department at Northern Kentucky University, and as associate dean of the College of Fine Arts at the University of Nevada - Las Vegas (UNLV).  While at UNLV, Kreider, who is an operatic baritone, served as assistant chair and chair of the music department and as coordinator of vocal studies and director of the UNLV Opera Theater. Kreider holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Arizona.  Kreider will visit RU Jan. 18-20 and will participate in public forums with the university community on Wednesday, Jan. 19 from 2-4 p.m. and on Thursday, Jan. 20 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in Heth 043.

Minner is currently the founding dean of the School of Health Sciences and Education at Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo.  Prior to serving at Truman State, he held the James H. Quillen Chair of Excellence in Teaching and Learning at East Tennessee State University.  He also served as professor and chair of the Department of Instructional Leadership at Northern Arizona University, served as an associate professor at Murray State University, and helped establish the first public university in Belize.  Minner holds a Ph.D. in special education from the University of Arizona.  Minner will visit RU Jan. 20-22 and will participate in public forums with members of the university community on Friday, Jan. 21, from 10 a.m.-noon and from 2-4 p.m. in Heth 043.

Radosh currently serves as dean of the college at the State University of New York at Geneseo, where she supervises registration, academic advising, curriculum review and implementation, graduate programs, summer sessions, scholarships, scheduling, five-year program review and staff and budgets for all divisions under the college.  Previously, Radosh served as professor of sociology and chair and professor of the Department of Women’s Studies at Western Illinois University, a program she helped found. Radosh was chosen Distinguished Faculty Lecturer at Western Illinois in 2007-2008. Radosh holds a Ph.D. in sociology from Southern Illinois University.  Radosh will visit RU Jan. 27-29.  She will hold public forums with members of the university community on Friday, Jan. 28 from 10 a.m.-noon and from 2-4 p.m.

The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs is the chief academic officer of Radford University and reports directly to President  Kyle. The Provost is a member of the President’s leadership team, chairs the Deans’ Council, and leads the faculty in their efforts to strengthen academic programs and foster a culture of academic excellence.

Radford University began the search for a new Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs last April with the formation of a 16-member search committee that included students, faculty and administrators. The committee selected a search firm, Archer-Martin Associates, to assist with the process. In November 2010, the Search Committee narrowed the pool of applicants to the eight individuals who best met the criteria outlined in the position description.  The pool was further refined by the Search Committee to the final three.

The university hopes to name Radford University’s new Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs by March.
