  4. RU Band Concert – Wind Ensemble & Symphonic Band »

    7:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. @ Performance Hall in the Covington Center

    The Radford University Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will perform under the direction of Dr. Wayne Gallops, and graduate conductor Elizabeth Good at the Performance Hall in the Covington Center. Featured on the concert are the 2014 RU Wind Concerto Winners, Lauren Milburn (flute) and Trevor Shrader (saxophone). Works to be performed include varied "fantasy pieces" for winds and classic band compositions by: Holst, Sousa, Whitacre, Camphouse, Faure', Smith, Hindemith, Bernstein, and Ellerby.

    Call for papers to read at the “Progressive Women” Conference Open to Faculty, Graduate and Undergraduate Students. Categories: Women Writers, Women in Literature, Women in History, the Modern Woman. Paper guidelines: Papers should fit into one of the four categories and adhere to academic standards in style of documentation (MLA, APA, or CMS) and be 4-7 pages in length. Papers should highlight women’s contributions and strengths in the area of the category. Thursday, March 20, 2014 Category #1: Women Writers (3-4 p.m., Heth Hall, Room 22) Papers written on a how women writers contributed to the literary world. Category #2: Women in Literature (4-5 p.m., Heth Hall, Room 22) Papers written on women in literature, such as a character in a novel, demonstrating how the character represents women. Thursday, March 27, 2014 Category #3: Women in History (3-4 p.m., Heth Hall, Room 22) Papers written on women in history who have made contributions in science, business, medicine, education, politics, or humanitarian efforts. Category #4: The Modern Woman (4-5 p.m., Heth Hall, Room 22) Papers written on women of today who have impacted science, business, medicine, education, politics, or humanitarian efforts. Please email submissions or questions to Suzanne Saunders at To submit a paper to the “Progressive Women” conference, please copy and paste an abstract of your paper in the body of your email. The abstract should be 125-250 words in length. Submissions are due on or before March 14, 2014.
