The tunnel of oppression is designed to increase awareness of different types of oppression that occurs within today’s society. The Tunnel of Oppression is an interactive experience that examines contemporary issues of race, mental health, domestic violence and body image. Participants are guided through a series of scenes that aim to educate and challenge them to think more deeply about these issues. At the end of the tour, there is a brief facilitated discussion, which allows the opportunity to process the experience. The entire experience lasts approximately 45 minutes (30 min. tour and 15 min. debriefing) per group and is a great opportunity for students to think critically about issues that impact the Radford University community. The Tunnel of Oppression is a truly unique experience that should not be missed by any class or a group of students. If you are interested in signing up your class or having a sign-in sheet for your students, please email Natalie Fajardo at: nfajardo2@radford.edu or at x7736.
