    Showcases adjacent to the Department of Interior Design and Fashion main office at 210 McGuffey Hall feature displays created by students in the visual merchandising class. The students apply visual display principles, concepts, and techniques to create window displays that will attract customer attention and sell products.

    Presenters: Jack Call, Chair and Professor, Department of Criminal Justice Brooke W. Chang, Director, Office of Diversity and Equity Joanna Hunter, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology Moderator: Deneen L. Evans, Assistant Professor, School of Social Work Diversity Dialogue will spend its first session of the 2013-14 academic year exploring some of the controversial legal cases that dominated the news during Summer 2013 (e.g. Defense of Marriage Act, Voting Rights Act, Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin, and Trayvon Martin). The session will address the following questions: -How do these cases, which tackle complex social issues, fit into our nation's ongoing efforts toward democracy? -How could these legal cases shape our communities? -As an academic community, how can we address the implications of these cases in our classroom, work and living spaces? All members of the Radford University community are invited to engage in meaningful conversations. Participants may bring their own lunches.

    In the Overcoming Stress and Anxiety group, you will learn practical skills to help you decrease your stress, as well as relieving anxiety and worry. If you are experiencing stress or anxiety and want to learn practical ways to solve these problems in a safe space, then this group (limited to 10 or fewer members) would be great for you. If interested, call Student Counseling Services at 540-831-5226. Students will undergo a brief screening to ensure that this group is a good fit for their needs. Depending on attendence, the group will likely be closed to new members after Sept. 19.

    In a small, rural town suffocated by the Great Depression two teenagers strike up an unlikely friendship as they try to outrun their frustrations and the shattered lives of their parents. But they might sooner outrun that old locomotive that streaks across the trestle outside of town. The Trestle at Pope Lick Creek is Naomi Wallace’s starkly poetic portrait of adolescent angst and human longing.
