Campus Involvement: Men’s basketball team and 2011 Quest Assistant
With an eye toward a future in marketing and a love for the sport of basketball, Blake Smith wedded his two passions when creating his career goal – sports marketing agent for the NBA.
Smith is not only an accomplished team player for the Radford University men’s basketball team, he is also involved in the campus community as a Quest Assistant welcoming new students to campus during orientation.
“I became a Quest Assistant because I realized that college only happens once, and I’m not a typical basketball player. I wanted to experience all that Radford University has to offer, and luckily, an opportunity to join Quest came along. I wanted to develop my leadership skills and social skills. I knew being a part of Quest would help me develop as a person, and it has,” Smith said.
With his pick of universities, Smith initially chose Radford University because of the beautiful campus and the impressive resumes of the basketball coaches.
“When I visited campus it was amazingly more scenic than I imagined,” Smith said. “It was also awesome that it wasn’t too big or too small and everyone was so welcoming.”
Smith notes that the encouragement he receives from his professors and advisors motivates him to do his best.
“They have definitely encouraged me to succeed and the way they present their material – the enthusiasm they have for it – has rubbed off on me,” Smith said.
