When can I visit Radford University?

Radford University offers campus tours year-round. You can register for a campus tour by visiting our tour page, or by calling 540-831-5371 during regular business hours. During a visit, you'll have the opportunity to take a student-guided campus tour and meet with an admissions counselor. Or you could attend one of our many group admissions programs. What do you look at when evaluating an application?

While admission to Radford University is selective, decisions are based on a number of factors. The committee is interested in what makes you you -- the unique combination of skills, interests and motivation that will enable you to be successful at Radford and in the world beyond. Please feel free to include personal comments and recommendations. Students are selected on the basis of:

High school record (including course of study, grade point average and class rank)
Results of the SAT I or ACT
Involvement in extracurricular and community activities

What should I take in high school to prepare myself to attend Radford University?

As an incoming freshman, you should have completed a broad selection of coursework in high school. Most successful applicants have taken:

4 units of English
4 units of college preparatory math
4 units of laboratory sciences
4 units in social studies
3-4 units in foreign language

Beginning with students applying as freshmen for the fall of 2003, Radford University requires a minimum of three years of college preparatory math. These courses must include Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2.

Virginia residents are encouraged to complete the Advanced Studies Diploma. Pre-nursing students are strongly advised to complete units in biology and chemistry. If you are enrolled in Advanced Placement courses, plan to take the AP test in May of your senior year. RU uses the College Board Advanced Placement Tests, the International Baccalaureate Examinations and the College Level Examination Program to award graduation credits.

Yes! You can apply online or complete and submit a paper application. You may request a paper application by e-mail or download and print an application (PDF) from our website.

What do I need to submit when I apply?

When you apply to Radford University, you will need:

An official transcript of high school work completed.
Your Scholastic Assessment Test I (SAT I) or American College Testing Program (ACT) results. You can send the results to the Radford University Office of Admissions, Box 6903, Radford, VA 24142. We recommend that this test be taken no later than December of your senior year. Results from either SAT I or ACT are required of all freshman applicants for admission to Radford.

What is the deadline to apply?

The deadline for incoming freshmen is December 1 for early action or February 1 for regular decision.

For transfer students, the priority deadline is June 1 for fall semester or November 1 for spring semester.

When will I find out if I’ve been accepted?

If you apply for early action, you will be notified by January 15. If you applied for regular decision, you will be notified by April 1.

How much does it cost to attend Radford University?

For the 2010-2011 academic year, tuition and fees for a full-time, in-state, undergraduate student total $7,694 per year (two semesters); for a full-time, out-of-state undergraduate, tuition and fees are $18,428. With room and board, the total for in-state undergraduates is $14,792; for out-of-state undergraduates, it is $25,526.

Is financial aid available?

Yes! Financial assistance includes loans, grants, work study, and fellowships. Approximately 62 percent of Radford University undergraduate students receive financial aid. (See Cost and Financial Aid.)
