Campus Involvement: Quest Assistant for New Student Programs and a member of the Radford University women’s soccer team

As a high school student, Asyia Mitchell knew she wanted to attend a college that would give her a well-rounded college experience while she studied communications with well-respected faculty members. When Radford University’s women’s soccer team began recruiting her to join the team, she decided to make a visit to campus to see what it had to offer.

Her first visit to campus was on a beautiful snowy day. Mitchell toured campus, took a peek at a residence hall room and checked out the athletic facilities.

“It was so much fun for me because I never thought in my life that I would be playing college soccer so that visit made it all real,” Mitchell said.

There was so much to love about Radford University – the gorgeous campus, the strong academics and the opportunity to play Division I soccer – that Mitchell soon decided to make Radford University her educational home.

Mitchell is glad to have chosen a university where the relationship between faculty and students is central to the college experience.

“A smaller campus size allows for a more personal relationship between faculty and students,” she said. “Professors know your name and your face, which allows for a more individualized view on how you may be doing in class. They are all willing to help and always inviting students to take advantage of their office hours.”

With a passion for public relations, Mitchell’s dream is to one day own a PR firm focused on representing athletic teams and corporations.
