CORE Connections

About

CORE Connections, a freshman learning community offered for the first time in Fall 2011, is the blending of two courses, CORE 201 – Topics in Critical Inquiry and UNIV100 – Introduction to Higher Education.  Using learning opportunities such as a common reader (See You In A Hundred Years by Logan Ward) and combining it with other out of class events, CORE Connections is a wonderful way to meet other new freshmen in an intimate academic setting.

To qualify for participation in CORE Connections, an entering new freshman must have Dual Enrollment credit for RU’s CORE 101 & 102 courses.  In most cases, this means that a student has taken ENGL111 & 112 while in high school through a Virginia Community College.  An invitation to participate in CORE Connections will be mailed to students in May and students will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.  Once accepted, a student will be enrolled in both CORE 201 & UNIV100 during orientation and will receive their free copy of the book at that time.
