Associate Professor of Theatre, Jennifer Juul, recently traveled to Norfolk to assist with a Lessac voice and movement workshop. The one-day workshop was co-sponsored by the Core Theatre Ensemble and the theatre department at Old Dominion University. She assisted Robin Carr, Lessac Certified Trainer and president-elect of the Lessac Institute. Workshop participants included students and faculty from ODU and VCU as well as professional actors. The morning session provided an overview of Lessac voice and movement work while the afternoon applied Lessac work to the rigorous Suzuki method of physical acting. Earlier this year, Juul traveled to Ireland to assist Carr with a workshop at the Gaeity School of Acting in Dublin. As a Lessac Practitioner and Certified Trainer Candidate, she is pursuing designation as a Certified Trainer.

Assistant Professor of Music Education, Jennifer McDonel, is a contributing writer for the Journal of the Early Childhood Music & Movement Association. Her article “Music–Mathematics Connections: Exploring Similar Developmental Progressions” will appear in Volume 9, Issue 3.

Assistant Professor of Art, Shaun Whiteside is featured as one of the 100 artists featured in Starry Night Programs' Artists to Look Out For Volume 1 catalog. The publication was released in September and is available on Amazon.com and Lulu.com.

“Whiteside’s work explores the metaphysical realm of emotionality through a painting and drawing process that employs physical forces,” the Stary Night programs’ media release said, “By working on vertical, horizontal, or slightly inclined surfaces, the artist uses gravity itself as a medium to develop imagery that is directed by natural law. Water erosion and sedimentation also determine parts of the visual outcome, as pigments are swept away from certain areas, and deposited in others where water accumulates and evaporates. Whiteside uses the visual forms that develop to depict emotional forces and energies that are unseen very real powers in the world.”
