A Guide to Planning CVPA Adventures through April 21

As the semester end looms closer, the College of Visual and Performing Arts schedule intensifies. These are events not be missed.

The Jewelry and Metalsmithing Show at Gallery 205 in Porterfield Hall opens Monday, April 15 and runs through April 26. The opening reception is on April 15 starting at 5:00 p.m. Free.

Tuesday, April 16. “Digital Painting: A Step into the Future of Art,” will be presented by students in ARTG384. This Undergraduate/Graduate Research Forum will be presented in Heth 16-17 from 4:00 p.m. to 5 p.m. Free.

Apr 16 through Apr 26, “702 Exhibition” for Art 702 Studio Management Class at Miller Off Main St. Galleries (211 Wilson Ave., Blacksburg, VA 24060). There will be a reception on Saturday, April 20 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The show hours are Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. For more information call (540) 552-6969. Wednesday, April 17. “Art for Public Spaces: Engaging in the Local Community through the Creation, Collaboration, and Contribution of Public Art." Painting students Kelli Billips, Julie Hawkins, Hallie Hawkins, Whitley Rogers and Hannah Milam at Heth 19 present this Undergraduate/Graduate Research Forum from 4:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Through April 18. The MFA Studio Art Graduate Art Show at the Radford University Art Museum at the Covington Center. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4:00 p.m.

Through April 30. “Radford University Presents the Graduate Art Student Association Exhibition” at Mish Mish, 125 N. Main St., Blacksburg, VA 24060. Hours:  Monday – Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Friday 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. For more information, please call (540) 552-1020.  


Interior Design and Fashion

Merchandising Students present retail-themed window displays located in the showcases adjacent to the Interior Design and Fashion Design main office at 210 McGuffey Hall.

  • Through Apr 15 – the RU Bookstore is the theme.
  • Apr 19 through Apr 29 – Bed, Bath, and Beyond is the theme.



Music in the Performance Hall in the Covington Center

Monday, April 15. The RU Opera Ensemble presents “Scenes & Arias” at 8:00 p.m.

Tuesday, April 16. Guest Recital – Massimilano Valenti, Piano at 8:00 p.m

Wednesday, April 17. RU Band Concert – Wind Ensemble at 8:00 p.m.

Friday, April 19. Student/Faculty Recital – Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia at 8:00 p.m.

Saturday, April 20. Senior Recital – Amanda Cramer, Flute at 8:00 p.m.

All of these performances are free.


Music Theraphy

Apr 18 through 20. Seventh Annual Music Therapy Symposium at Porterfield 149.



April 18 through 21. The theatre department presents "Major Barbara" at the Pridemore Playhouse. Evening performances are Thursday through Saturday and start at 8:30 p.m. There will be a matinee on Sunday, April 21, which will also be a sign language interpreted performance.
