On Wednesday, Feb. 5, Radford University welcomes the United States Navy Concert Band to Bondurant Auditorium in Preston Hall for a free public concert.

According to the Navy, “Since 1925, the Concert Band has presented concerts throughout the United States in addition to performances at White House and Pentagon ceremonies in Washington. Concerts offer patriotic, classical, martial and pops musical selections.”

It began as the original ensemble of the U.S. Navy Band. The Navy Band organization features five separate musical groups.

Currently the Concert Band is comprised of 56 musicians performing on Bassoon, clarinet, euphonium, flute, harp, horn, oboe, percussion, saxophone, string bass, trombone, trumpet, and tuba. Captain Brian O. Walden directs it.

“We are pleased to have the Navy Concert Band perform at Radford University. Their reputation for excellence and musical discipline is an inspiration for our students,” says Dr. Wayne Gallops, the Director of Bands in the Department of Music. The Department is excited to bring this caliber of ensemble to RU and the community.

Free tickets are available at RU’s Bonnie Hurlburt Student Center and also online. There is a limit of four per person. For online tickets visit http://tinyurl.com/oksmk2o.
