It is a fair exchange of master classes and performances between two universities and affiliated dance companies.

Radford University and d a n a h b e l l a DanceWorks began this trade off by teaching master classes and performing at the Jeslyn Dance Gallery and Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va. Now the reciprocal is happening.

Jeslyn Dance Gallery is performing at RU’s Albig Studio Theatre, Peters Hall B112 on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m. Their director, Jessica Lynn Fox, is teaching a dance majors only class in High Intermediate Modern Dance technique on Nov. 19 and on Nov. 20 she is offering an improv class from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., which is open to all RU students.

“Jessica has recently become affiliated with Marshall University’s dance minor program and she approached me about doing some sort of exchange last spring semester,” Associate Professor of Dance danah bella said.

RU affiliated dance company d a n a h b e l l a DanceWorks has performed at the Jeslyn Performing Arts Center twice and at Marshall University’s theatre department’s experimental theatre. She and a few of her dancers taught master classes in ballet, modern and repertory to the community as well as to Marshall University students.

During one of these times, Fox expressed an interest in bringing her work to RU and there are thoughts on a collaboration between the two dance professors for the 2014-2015 season.

In terms of what the audience should expect from the Jeslyn Dance Gallery performance, bella says, “From what I know of her work, she is witty, comedic, smart. I think the work will be accessible yet thought provoking at the same time.”

This contemporary modern dance performance by the Jeslyn Dance Gallery is free. For more information about the performance or classes, email danah bella at dvbella@radford.edu.
