Through energetic and rhythmically intricate movements, the Festival of South African Dance communicates a perseverance of the human spirit and spreads awareness about the socioeconomic and political challenges facing South Africa. Two distinct groups share these stories through their historical dance traditions in an uplifting and entertaining evening at Radford University at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 10, 2018, at the Bondurant Auditorium
Interview with Megan Short, Outstanding Senior in Design
The CVPA has Spring Fever and a competitive spirit. Radford University is publicly launching a new fundraising initiative April 17. For one week only, April 17 – 21, each college on campus plus Radford University Athletics will raise money for a project of its choice utilizing a new online crowdfunding platform. Each college and Athletics are competing to see which project can reach its goal first.
Once Dean Steve Helm presented the final award of the 2016 Winesett Book Collecting Awards, as luck would have it, the top three winners have two things in common. They are all graduate students and are majoring in fields within the Radford University College of Visual and Performing Arts.
See what CVPA faculty, alumni and students achieved in late summer and are doing off campus in September. Spring and summer may seem quiet on campus at Radford University, but looks are deceiving. The College of Visual and Performing Arts was extremely active with summer school, Quest, Radford University Ballet Youth’s International Summer Intensive Program and Governor’s School. And several of our professors, students and alumni sent of word of their recent achievements.

The first Masters of Fine Art in Design Thinking student graduated during the 2016 Spring Commencement. Holly Murdock holds this distinction from the newest terminal degree program in the College of Visual and Performing Arts.
Four fashion design seniors sat at a long table in 211 McGuffey Hall. For the 48 hours starting Feb. 26, they worked in this space completing the Department of Design’s annual charrette.

Students in Design 205 at Radford University embraced the local history of the Christiansburg Institute in their mobile museum concept designs for Montgomery County K-12 educators on Feb. 7.
As part of the Radford University Department of Design fashion curriculum, each senior crafts their own clothing line. To create the one-of-a-kind garments, students purchase their own fabrics and textiles to craft the high-quality creations.
The Department of Design is hosting a Fall Fashion Show that highlights the creative talents of Radford University students.
The third time was the charm for recent Radford University alumna Shawna Hession ’17. After three student submissions to the American Advertising Awards – formerly the ADDYs – Hession, of Radford, came out on top in 2017 by winning a national award at the American Advertising Awards in June.
A final project for three Department of Design students at Radford University provided clarity for their educational experience, where the students took home the top prize for a group project.
The Department of Design hosted one of its most fashionable events of the year, Fashion Fete, on March 18. Students showcased their creations – including the first menswear collection – at the show.
