Chair of the Department of Dance

Position: The School of Dance and Theatre at Radford University invites applications for the Chair of the Department of Dance, a tenure-track position at the Associate Professor or Professor rank, starting August 10, 2015.  The Chair serves as the academic and administrative leader for a department of 70 students and four full-time faculty members, and provides the strategic vision for the continuous improvement of programs, services and operations.  In addition to teaching, the Chair leads the faculty in assessment, recruiting, student retention, and curriculum development.  Duties include advising faculty, scheduling courses, presiding over department meetings, coordinating tenure and promotion committees, strategic planning, managing department budgets, maintaining accreditation, serving as the department ombudsman, and developing and maintaining strategic partnerships. The department is currently undergoing NASD accreditation.

Qualifications: An MFA or Ph.D. in Dance, Choreography or related terminal degree, a minimum of seven years of university teaching experience, three years experience in management or academic administration, and five years or more of professional dance experience. Must be able to teach all levels of modern technique, some theory classes (e.g. somatics, dance history, dance production), choreograph and/or stage works from repertoire. Knowledge of NASD is desired.

The Department of Dance provides a comprehensive undergraduate dance education that equally emphasizes proficiency in both modern and ballet technique. Degrees offered include a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance, a Bachelor of Arts in Dance, and a Bachelor of Science in Dance with teacher licensure. In addition, the department offers an 18-credit-hour minor in dance. Students and faculty enjoy well-equipped facilities and a performance season of three mainstage productions per year including an annual evening of ballet as well as productions of various genres of choreography by faculty and guest artists. A full-length Nutcracker is presented biennially. Student and faculty choreography is also presented several times a year in the studio theatre.
