Examples of such collaboration are listed below:
- In the Department of Art, Dr. Roann Barris is currently collaborating with students on a project dedicated to the exploration of methods for researching and writing about contemporary, living artists. The professor plans to use this research in a future book publication.
- Dance majors continually work closely with faculty in the creation of new and exciting original choreographic projects. In addition to on-campus performances, many students have recently had opportunities to perform faculty work in off-campus locations such as Washington, D.C., New York, California, and Italy.
- The Department of Interior Design & Fashion participates annually in the University’s Undergraduate Research Forum. Students work closely with a faculty mentor on various research projects and present their findings to the university community at the conclusion of the academic year. Recent topics have included Sustainability in Interior Design; Breast Cancer Therapy: The Design of a Prototypical Facility; and Sensibly Chic: Researching and Designing Around Claire McCardell and Coco Channel.
- Each spring in the Department of Theatre and Cinema, students of the advanced directing class work with a faculty mentor as they direct and produce one-act plays. These works culminate in a series of performances in The Studio Theatre at semester’s end. For students focusing on theatrical design, there are many opportunities to put theory into practice. In close collaboration with a faculty mentor, students have the chance to design a set for faculty and/or student productions. The variety of genres covered by the division’s production season provides design students with exceptional creative challenges.
