2008-09 Exhibition Season

The Fall 2008 Visual Arts calendar is varied with new artists for you to meet and shows which highlight art from Radford University’s Permanent Collection. This fall you can revisit old friends and see some new exciting pieces during this period of transition for Radford University’s Art Museum.

Huichol
Sept. 11 - Oct. 1, 2008
Reception: Thursday, Sept. 11, 5 to 7 p.m.

The religious life of the Huichol is reflected in their art. Their technique of pressing yarn designs into wax-coated surfaces can be traced back to the earliest ethnographic records and probably has pre-Columbian origins. A vibrant and colorful show to start our museum season.

John O’Connor, Assistant Professor of Graphic Design, will exhibit his latest artworks as well as works cataloguing his personal artistic development.

Adolf Dehn achieved a considerable reputation during his lifetime, especially as an American realist printmaker. A selection of pieces from our university collection.

Where Art Begins: Schools of the New River Valley

An exhibition of art from kindergarten through high school produced in the art classrooms of Montgomery County and Pulaski County Public Schools. These works are curated by current Radford University student teachers in these schools.

The exhibition is part of Radford University’s Chinese Festival. Professor Zhang is known for his exceptional calligraphy style. We anticipate this limited engagement will be the first of many exchanges between our two universities.
