Secondary Education Concentration

[The Secondary Education Concentration is only available for students who began prior to the 2015-16 Catalog. Students who began in 2015-16 or later should look at the Traditional Mathematics Concentration with licensure.]

The Secondary Education concentration is designed to prepare students to teach mathematics at the high school level. This four-year program combines classes in mathematics and professional education leading to a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics with extracurricular requirements leading to high school teaching licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The focus of the first three years of the program is on the Core Curriculum and the required mathematics courses. Along the way, students prepare to apply to the Teacher Education Program during the junior year.

The senior year is devoted to professional education courses and student teaching. Recommended four-year schedules can be found on the Secondary Education Concentration checksheet (PDF).
