I have been working to catalog herbarium (plant) specimens in the Radford collection. The herbarium specimens date back to the 1930s and provide valuable collection data from locations around southwest Virginia. Some of the localities have changed substantially in 80 years and the natural habitats no longer exist. Therefore, these plants provide us with a snapshot in time, helping us to understand what Radford and its environs looked like in the past. I'm also learning about the taxonomy of plants as I digitize these valuable teaching and research specimens.
