What is it?

CORE 201 for New Students with Advanced Standing

ORE 201 for New Students with Advanced Standing is designed to offer new freshmen with dual enrollment English composition credit a jump start to their college career. A sophomore-level course, CORE 201 focuses on written and oral communication, critical thinking, and decision making. While this is an advanced course, students will take CORE 201 with only other first-year students.

We offer six sections reserved for students who attend quest. The sections are taught by Dr. Boyce Durr, Ms. Candice Benjes-Small, and Ms. Heather Hollandsworth. The sections are designed to help students transition to the college experience but still offer sophomore-level skills in written and oral communication, critical thinking, and decision making.

What are the Benefits?

  • Class sizes of 20 or less
  • Pre-registration of a sophomore level course (Core 201) at Quest that may otherwise be unavailable to incoming students
  • A supportive environment for incoming students with dual enrollment credit

How do I qualify?

  • 3.0 cumulative high school GPA, and
  • Dual enrollment credit for ENG 111 & 112 (must have earned a C or better in both courses.) You will receive credit for the introductory CORE courses (CORE 101 & 102)

With these qualifications, you may register for Core 201 - Topics in Critical Inquiry for New Students with Advanced Standing. Space is limited, so be sure to contact your advisor to indicate your interest.
