Nominate a Radford University Volunteer
NRV Leading Lights is a community-wide project which recognizes volunteers in the New River Valley who are making community-changing impacts and serving as models to inspire others. The Virginia Tech German Club Alumni foundation is a major sponsor of the program which began in 2007 prompted by the outpouring of voluntary service after the 4/16 shootings at Virginia Tech. The Steering committee includes representatives from charities and the faith community around the New River Valley, including representatives from the area's three colleges.
Leading Lights is now accepting nominations, five Awards will be given to outstanding volunteers as follows: Youth (1), Collegiate (1), and Community (3). Each winner will receive a $1,000 donation to the nonprofit of his or her choice. Radford University Provost Sam Minner is one of the guest speakers at the banquet award to be held in April 2013.
The steering committee would like to increase the nominations from college students and would like to see more Radford University student volunteers nominated. We have so many students involved in the community, help us recognize them. Nominations are encouraged for those volunteering in the areas of community and social service, recreational sports, and arts and culture. Nominations are for individuals, group nominations are not accepted. Nominations will only be accepted online this year at Leading Lights. The deadline is Monday, February 11, 2013. Questions can be directed to Teresa Dickens, Assistant Director and Career Counselor of Career Services.
