Health and Human Performance

Within the Department of Health and Human Performance, students participate in high impact initiatives through conducting their own research. Topics are presented annually at university, national, and international conferences and some students submit their work for publication.

Driver Education

We offer a course sequence through our department that leads to an add-on endorsement in Driver Education. Upon successful completion of HLTH 410, Drivers Education Theory, and HLTH 412, Driver Education-Driver Task Analysis (behind-the-wheel), Radford University will recommend the add-on endorsement. HLTH 410 is usually taught as an on-line course during the summer. HLTH 412 is usually taught as a condensed course during the summer. This course sequence is open to those who are currently teaching in Virginia or enrolled in a teacher preparation program.

Based on the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification agreement, candidates will be eligible for teacher licensure reciprocity with other states.

If you wish to be certified to teach driver education and are not a Radford University student or alumni, you must apply for admission as an undergraduate, graduate or special non-degree seeking student through the Office of Admissions or College of Graduate and Professional Studies. Undergraduate alumni apply through the Registrar’s Office as re-admitted students.

 

Health 200

HLTH 200 examines and explores personal health behaviors and their connection with the wellness lifestyle concept. You will analyze specific lifestyle factors and their relationships to well-being and disease. The course will identify and explore infectious and non-infectious diseases in relationship to risk factors, populations at risk and potential for future health problems. You will also explore the exercise and activity connection with personal health behaviors by participating in both structured activity lab settings and developing your own personal exercise routines.
