Research Study on the U.S. National Wheelchair Rugby Team

Drs. Newsome, Sallee, and Barfield recently completed a research study on the U.S. National Wheelchair Rugby Team. The project, EMG Analysis during Wheelchair Sport, is one of the first studies to examine muscle fatigue during training through EMG analysis. The project was funded by RU's College of Education and Human Development and the researchers partnered with Virginia Tech engineers to analyze the unique data. The content will first be presented at the North American Federation of Adapted Physical Activity conference in October at the University of Michigan. Dr. Barfield is a member of the U.S. Paralympic Research and Sport Science Consortium and the current project was one of only two approved for designated research into Paralympic sport.
