Professor Susan M. Miller received her undergraduate degree from Winthrop University, her Master of Arts Degree from Wake Forest University and her C.A.G.S. from Virginia Tech. Mrs. Miller currently serves as the Vice-President for the General Division of the Virginia Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (VAHPERD). Professor Miller has authored the chapter on pre-school movement and motor development for the Virginia’s Foundation Blocks for Early Learning: Comprehensive Standards for Four-Year Olds, published in 2007. She also was a writer for the revision of the National Association for Sport and Physical Education’s booklet entitled Opportunities to Learn for Elementary School Physical Education, published in 2009. Mrs. Miller’s teaching ability has been recognized regionally and nationally. In 2002, she was awarded the Virginia AHPERD Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year. In 2003, she received the Southern District AAHPERD Elementary Physical Educator of the Year and was a finalist for National K-5 Teacher of the Year. Also, in 2002, she was notified that the Carol M. White Physical Education for Progress (PEP) Grant that she had written for Montgomery County Public Schools, Virginia, was chosen as a recipient of $ 334, 544. 00. During her teaching career at the K-5 public school level and the university level, she has presented workshops for over 150 school divisions from Georgia and Virginia to Utah and New Hampshire.
