Jones, Sharon (Dr.)


After a national search, the Department of Counselor Education is pleased to announce that Dr. Sharon Blackwell Jones has joined the department as an Assistant Professor faculty member.  Dr. Jones is a graduate of Penn State University and has experience working in the areas of community counseling, school counseling, and counseling psychology.  Over the past 11 years, Dr. Jones has taught graduate courses in Diversity, Counseling Skills, Drug and Alcohol Counseling and Practicum for Individual Counseling and groups. In addition, she served as the Assistant Undergraduate Counselor Education Coordinator and worked as aHigh School Counselor. She also served as a consultant to schools in Georgia on developing cultural competence. Areas of research and professional interestinclude Cultural Competence, grief and loss, as well as DNA Counseling. Dr.Jones has been an active advocate for LGBT issues and has developed and ledsafe zone training's for students and faculty in university communities.  Dr. Jones can be contacted at
