Reception to celebrate Women's History Month

Radford University's second annual Women's History Month celebration will conclude on Friday, March 29, with a 4 p.m. reception in the lobby of the Covington Center for Visual and Performing Arts.

Penelope W. Kyle, Radford University’s sixth, and first female, president, will host the reception and will speak about the significance of Women's History Month.

"It will be my great pleasure to host this year's reception in conjunction with the second annual RU Women’s History Month," Kyle said. "I encourage everyone to join us as we culminate a month of observances, symposia and events wherein we have learned about the accomplishments of the pioneers in women’s history and to recognize those Radford leaders who are making a difference today both at RU and in our communities."

The reception will also honor the Women’s Studies Program's Distinguished Women for 2013. The 39 honorees—students, faculty and staff members—have been recognized through the month with posters on display across campus.

The women whose photos and accomplishments are featured on the posters were selected based on their commitment to their work, contributions to the university and service to others, said Professor Moira Baker, director of the RU Women's Studies Program.

With support from the Office of the President and the Office of the Provost, the Women's Studies Committee chose the honorees based on nominations from deans of the colleges, the staff and A/P senates and the Student Government Association.
