Stephanie House-Niamke, a senior marketing major from Roanoke, was awarded the John Swain Memorial Scholarship from the Direct Marketing Association of Washington (DMAW) Educational Foundation. She is Radford University’s first Swain Scholarship winner.
The annual award goes to outstanding students from mid-Atlantic universities who demonstrate academic excellence and a desire to pursue a career in the field of direct and interactive marketing. House-Niamke’s scholarship was presented at the foundation’s annual Best of Direct Gala at the National Geographic Society in Washington on Dec. 1.
“The news was a very nice Thanksgiving gift,” House-Niamke said. “I am grateful to my marketing professors who thought I had a lot to offer and encouraged me.”
The scholarship caps a busy semester for House-Niamki, who works part time in the RU admissions office, at the Charlotte Russe clothing store in the New River Valley Mall and as a marketing intern for the Roanoke Valley United Way.
“We are very proud of the recognition Stephanie has received from the DMAW Educational Foundation,” said James Lollar, chairman of the marketing department. “From the time she arrived at RU, Stephanie has been an exemplary role model for other students. We are confident her success will continue in her professional life.”
