Quotes about Journalism:

"The lowest form of popular culture -- lack of information, misinformation, misinformation, and a contempt for the truth or the reality of most people's lives -- has overrun real journalism. Today, ordinary Americans are being stuffed with garbage." [Carl Bernstein]

"I see journalists as the manual workers, the laborers of the word. Journalism can only be literature when it is passionate." [Marguerite Duras]

"Our job is like a baker's work -- his rolls are tasty as long as they're fresh; after two days they're stale; after a week, they're covered with mould and fit only to be thrown out."[Ryszard Kapuscinski]

"Journalists are like dogs, when ever anything moves they begin to bark." [Arthur Scopenhauer]

"The facts fairly and honestly presented; truth will take care of itself." [William Allen White]

About Brian

My name is Brian Seay and I am a junior (should be a senior though) at Radford University with a major in Media Studies (Concentration: Journalism) and minor in English. Currently, I'm writing for The Tartan newspaper and making a return to writing for the Whim online magazine.

I'm passionate, dedicated, and enthusiastic with reporting and writing diverse and accurate stories with flair. I'm currently applying for internships both for this spring and summer. Right now for the Spring I'm applying for an internship at The New River Voice and Radford News Journal. I have a desire to learn new skills and acquire knowledge necessary for the internship that I will get. An internship will give me the opportunity to further develop the journalism skills needed to begin my career as a Journalist. I am confident that the internship that I will get will leave me with a set of strong clips.

While majoring in journalism, I worked on a number of projects that required the strong written and oral communication skills necessary to succeed in a position with the print media. I have worked on a research project, analyzing and compiling information about the impact of male body images in television and magazine advertisements in society. I presented an oral presentation, to inform students of the powerful effects advertising has and how society has to become media literate. This project has not only helped master my writing and research skills, but it allowed me to gain practical knowledge in the advertising aspects of media. Male body image has interested me so much that I wanted to write an article for it for The Tartan and hopefully write a 5 part series for the Whim Online Magazine going into more detail--some of the same ideas might be "rehashed" from The Tartan article but I plan to introduce new and significant material in it. So far Part One of the article for Whim focuses on "advertisements". The article in The Tartan has actually been summarized but does not go into full detail.
