RU Names New Vice President for Student Affairs
Mark G. ShanleyRadford University has named Mark G. Shanley as its new vice president for student affairs. Shanley comes to RU after serving as interim assistant vice president for student affairs at Miami University in Ohio, where he focused on developing signature leadership, student engagement, community service and fraternity and sorority life programs. CSI: Radford
CSI: RadfordA crime has been committed on campus, and officers throughout the region are scouring the scene searching for clues. Don't panic, the crime scene investigation (CSI) was all staged, part of a two-and-a-half day workshop for rural police officers, hosted by the Radford University Forensic Science Institute (FSI), and sponsored by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ). Southeast Asia Study Abroad Program Opens Eyes to New World
The heat can be intolerable. The humidity is suffocating. Hungry insects descend in waves. But there's one illuminating sight found in the forest villages of Cambodia which will forever stay in the heart of William R. Kennan, associate dean of the Radford University College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences. "The smiles are genuine here. Cambodian people are truly wonderful people, " Kennan blogged after he and his student volunteers spent a long, hot, steamy day rolling up their sleeves to help build safer, eco-friendly, composting toilets for local families as part of Radford University's Centennial Service Challenge. Alumnus Named Roanoke City Schools Teacher of the Year
John Marks ‘07, a teacher in the middle school teacher education program in Roanoke City, has been named the city’s School Teacher of the Year. Marks, a teacher at James Madison Middle School, has taught sixth and eighth grade math for the past three years. Read More >>

Golden Reunion 2010
Class of 1960 alumnae will celebrate their 50th Golden Reunion on June 11-12. Activities are scheduled to include a welcome reception on Friday, followed on Saturday by an induction of the Golden Reunion class, a campus tour and a dinner. Creasy Honored as Big South Woman of the Year
Hope CreasyRadford University softball standout Hope Creasy has been named the Big South Conference’s 2010 Women of the Year. The senior outfielder helped the Highlanders complete their most successful season in program history while excelling in the classroom and the community. As the Big South Woman of the Year, Creasy is nominated as a candidate for the national NCAA Woman of the Year Award. She is the first Radford student-athlete to receive the conference honor. Softball’s Successful Season Comes to an End
Radford’s most successful season in program history came to an end when it fell 8-1 to host and No. 9 Georgia in the Athens Regional final of the 2010 NCAA Softball Championship. Read full story
