Homecoming 2009

RU HomecomingRU Homecoming is fast approaching, and exciting events are planned to welcome alumni back to campus for a fun-filled weekend. Homecoming is scheduled for Feb. 27-28, and includes athletics competitions, alumni socials, reunions, a pep rally, billiards tournaments and, new this year, a Texas Hold-em tournament, which will be directed by poker champion Phil Vera, RU class of '89. For alumni yearning for the intellectual fulfillment of the RU classrooms, an Alumni Teaching Day will be offered. Also, the public is invited to Entrepreneur Express, a free business workshop that is set to provide interactive business discussions. Visit the Homecoming 2009 Web site to view the complete events schedule, register, view ticket packages and hotel information, and to become a Homecoming volunteer.

Bob Yang and Yongli Xi: A Love Story and Then Some

Bob Yang and Yongli Xi"It has always been my wish to give back to Radford," says Yuanhang (Bob) Yang. "That's the place I started my new life." He came from China to Radford in August 1996 to pursue an M.B.A. degree. RU had awarded him a small scholarship, which, he says, "at that time was really a big help."

Bob met his wife, Yongli Xi, also from China, when she came to Radford a year later to seek a master's degree in international economics. She, too, had received an RU scholarship.

Recently, when they learned about the seat-naming campaign for the new Covington Center for Visual and Performing Arts, they hardly had to think twice about making a donation. "For us, this is very important," says Bob. "It is a privilege to be able to give back in any form. What I have is not much, but what I have is because of Radford. I wouldn't have my baby, I wouldn't have my wife. We found the love of our life there. Everything started at Radford." Read more about Bob and Yongli in RU faces.

Coming in March: Katherine Suri followed her 1966 graduation from Radford with a 16-year career at NASA, where she worked as a neurobiologist and helped the agency safely launch its astronauts into space through the Apollo, Skylab and space shuttle programs.
