Studio Theatre in Porterfield Hall named for Dr. James W. Hawes

Hawes Family James W. Hawes, chair of the Department of Theatre at Radford University from 1975 to 1994, was a legend among the students he taught. During his time at Radford University he was a professor of theatre history and an expert on Henrik Ibsen, the 19th-century Norwegian playwright, poet and director.

Hawes' wife, Lilli Henriksen Hawes, and daughter, Leslie '06, M.S. '11, honored him recently by making a significant contribution in his memory to name the studio theatre in Porterfield Hall. It is now known as the "Dr. James W. and Lilli Hawes Studio Theatre."

Naming opportunities provide a way for alumni, families and friends to leave a legacy or make a gift in someone's honor or memory. These opportunities contribute in a significant way to the advancement of the university. If you are interested in naming opportunities at Radford University, please contact the Office of University Advancement at (540) 831-5407 or email at ruadvancement@radford.edu.
