Powell Hall

Powell Hall -- named in honor of John Powell, internationally known composer and pianist -- was completed in 1967. The first floor houses Department of Music faculty studios, individual and large-group practice rooms, and classrooms. On the second floor are the art studios, laboratories and faculty offices of the Department of Art, as well as the RU Art Museum's Flossie Martin Gallery and Gallery 205. The Flossie Martin Gallery was named in honor of a high school teacher of Miles C. Horton, a major donor to the gallery. A 16,000 square-foot sculpture court just outside the Flossie Martin Gallery was named in honor of Radford University alumna Corinna de la Burde´. Porterfield and Powell Halls together comprise the Silverman Fine Arts Center, named in honor of Dr. Irving Silverman, a distinguished educator who served Radford University for many years as professor and dean of humanities.
