Porterfield Hall

Together with Powell Hall, this academic building makes up the facility known as the Silverman Fine Arts Center, named in honor of Dr. Irving Silverman, a distinguished educator who served Radford University for many years as professor and dean of humanities. Porterfield Hall was built as an addition to Powell Hall in 1972 and is named for Robert Porterfield, founder of the famous Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Va. This building contains television and radio studios, classrooms, faculty offices and the 500-seat Pridemore Theatre, named in honor of RU alumna Nancy Necessary Pridemore. It houses the Theatre Department, Media Studies and the office of the Dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts.
