Fairfax Hall

For many years, the Tyler Memorial Presbyterian Church was used as a campus chapel. The church, which was erected on Tyler Avenue in 1897, was moved to its present location in 1952. In 1990 the Radford University Foundation, Inc. bought the building from the Presbyterian Church Foundation and leased it to the university as academic space. The old Sunday School building became the home of the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, and the main auditorium was converted into a large teaching facility. The former church was renamed Fairfax Hall because of its location on Fairfax Street. Upon the death of former university president Dr. Charles Martin in 1992, the building was renamed Martin Hall in his honor. However, when the new administrative wing of Preston Hall was completed, that structure was given the name of Martin Hall and the old church was again named Fairfax Hall.
