“Time Out for Learning” is an award-winning audio series of public service announcements featuring tips for parents on supporting their children’s learning. These tips were developed in collaboration with faculty in Radford University’s College of Education and Human Development and produced by our professional staff at WVRU 89.9 FM and the Office of University Relations.

These PSAs are provided as part of the university’s mission to support community education. Individual PSAs are available as MP3 files at the links below. Please feel free to download (right click on link and select "save as" to load mp3 file to your hard drive) and use them free of charge. If you need the PSAs in a different format, please contact Kathie Dickenson at kdickens@radford.edu or 540-831-7745. 

The current installment of “Time Out for Learning” offers parents insight into helping their adolescent children learn responsibility. Each PSA is 30 seconds in length. Below is our suggested radio broadcast schedule:

  1. Sept. - Oct. ’07 -- Adolescence – A Time of Struggle
  2. Nov. - Dec. ’07-- Becoming Independent
  3. Jan. - Feb. ’08 -- Embracing Responsibility
  4. March - April ’08 -- Learning to Prioritize

  6. July - Aug. ’08 -- Good Citizenship

The “Time Out for Learning” project has twice won an Award of Excellence from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, District III. The national publication Admissions Marketing Report recognized the project with a Silver Advertising Award.
