"Lend Me a Tenor" Opens October 2 at RU

RADFORD – Ken Ludwig’s production “Lend Me a Tenor” opens Friday, Oct. 2, in Radford University’s Pridemore Auditorium. Performance dates are October 2, 3, 8, 9 and 10 at 8 p.m.; October 3 and 4, 2 p.m.; and October 7, 10 a.m. The play is under the direction of theatre faculty Anthony Guest.

It’s just hours before the Cleveland Opera Company’s gala fundraiser and superstar Italian tenor Tito Merelli is not to be found. Throw in a fiery Italian wife, a soprano, an opera-singing bellhop, the hot-headed opera manager, tranquilizers, slamming doors and a glass of Chianti and mayhem ensues – “the show must go on.”

Reviews read that “this side-splitting farce has been called a furiously paced comedy with more than a touch of the Marx brothers  and hilariously over the top.”

Theatre professor Wesley Young plays the role of Henry Saunders, general manager of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company.

Tickets for Family Weekend performances (October 2 - 3) are on sale at Hurlburt Student Center. Call (540) 831-5420. Tickets for remaining performances are on sale at the Porterfield Box Office. Call (540) 831-5289. Admission is free for RU students, $5 for faculty and staff and $8 for general public.
