Nutrition and Dietetics Accreditation Continued; Program Renamed

RADFORD – The dietetics program at Radford University was granted continued accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) through 2013. The program has been renamed Nutrition and Dietetics and now is under the umbrella of the Department of Exercise, Sport and Health Education in the College of Education and Human Development.

CADE is the American Dietetic Association’s accrediting agency for educational programs preparing students for careers as registered dieticians and is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Accreditation affirms that CADE meets national standards and is a reliable authority on the quality of nutrition and dietetics educational programs.

Hospitals, medical clinics, wellness centers, schools, health departments are among agencies and businesses that employ registered dietitians. They are qualified to provide medical nutrition therapy, an essential component of comprehensive health care.

RU’s program, which enrolls almost 100 students, is one of four accredited programs in the state of Virginia.
