RU and SunTrust Announce Centennial Scholars Program
RADFORD SunTrust Bank Foundation and Radford University are developing a program that will award graduate and undergraduate research on a competitive basis. The program is part of the university’s Centennial Celebration.
Work is beginning now on the program and awards for the SunTrust Centennial Scholars Program will be presented in the fall of 2010 as Radford University celebrates 100 years of service.
The program awards $10,000 that will be divided equally among RU’s six colleges in the centennial year, and then continues through 2014 at a lower level.
Under the program, each college dean may appoint a jury of college faculty and alumni to judge competition submittals. Each college will be provided $1,666 to award to student winners. Faculty will also be recognized for their work with the student winners. Each college is allowed to develop unique criteria for determining winners.
“We are delighted that the SunTrust Foundation has seen fit to support and encourage our faculty and students to do what they love to do, which is to engage in collaborative research and creative endeavors,” said Dennis Grady, dean of the College of Graduate and Professional Studies. “It speaks well of the wisdom of the Foundation and to RU’s growing reputation for scholarship.”
Competition winners will be announced and celebrated during the 2010 fall semester at the SunTrust Centennial Scholars Celebration banquet.
