Banner Registration Information
Registration for spring 2010 classes begins on Monday, November 2nd. On that day, students will begin registering for their spring classes using Banner, a brand-new student information system. With that new system, there are new registration policies and procedures of which you should be aware. It is very important that you review the following registration information. You should also visit the “Registration Information” section of the Registrar’s Office Web site o view the Spring 2010 Course Schedule, view tutorials on how to navigate the course schedule and how to register for classes, figure your registration times, and more.
Registration Personal Identification Numbers (PIN)
All undergraduate students will need to obtain from their faculty advisor or advising center a registration personal identification number (PIN). A registration PIN is needed in order to register for classes. If your advisor or advising center does not have your registration PIN, please have them contact the Registrar’s Office.
***Graduate Students will no longer need to use a registration PIN to register for classes.
Phased Registration
Undergraduate student registration is prioritized according to student classification, e.g., seniors register before juniors, juniors register before sophomore, etc., and is conducted in “phases”. Priority registration will remain the same, though phased registration has undergone significant changes.
In the past, undergraduate registration was conducted in three phases. In November, it will be conducted in only two phases:
Phase I: All undergraduate students, in good academic standing, will have 48 hours to register for up to 18 credit hours. This phase will be prioritized and will last two weeks.
Phase II: This phase is primarily intended for schedule adjustment, and to allow those students permitted to carry an overload to add additional courses. Start times for Phase II will also be prioritized, but all students will have the same end time -- December 18th at 5:00 p.m.
***Graduate Students do not have priority or phased registration. All graduate students can begin registering at 7:00 a.m. on November 2nd and registration will remain open until 4:00 p.m. on February 1st.
Registration Times
As described above, undergraduate student registration is prioritized, meaning that not all undergraduate students will begin registering at the same time. No later than Thursday, October 29th, you will have a new Registration Channel that you can find in your Academics Tab in MyRU, Radford University’s portal, which will display your registration start and end times. While that channel will not appear to you until the 29th, you can figure out your registration times by simply using the Undergraduate Student Registration Times chart found under “Registration Information” at the Registrar’s Office Web site.
***Graduate Students do not have priority or phased registration. All graduate students can begin registering at 7:00 a.m. on November 2nd and registration will remain open until 4:00 p.m. on February 1st.
Registration Resources
Also included in the Registration Channel is a link that takes you to other Registration Resources, including your registration status, which will also list your registration times, if you have any holds that will prevent you from being able to register, the course schedule, and other useful registration resources. To see what the Course Registration Channel will look like and the features available to you, view the Course Registration Channel Tutorial found under “Registration Information” at the Registrar’s Office Web site.
How to Register for Classes
When it is your time to register, a “REGISTER NOW” button will appear in your Course Registration Channel. When you click that button, you will be taken to the Registration Menu, with links that will allow you to add/drop classes, look up classes, view your registration history, and more. To see how to register for classes, please view the How to Register for Classes tutorial found under “Registration Information” at the Registrar’s Office Web site.
Course Override Process
The course override policy will remain the same, though the course override procedures have changed. As before, only department chairs and school directors in individual departments or schools have the authority to override a prerequisite requirement, a course capacity limit, or a time conflict with another course. That override will now be given electronically through the new student information system. Once that override has been placed on a student’s record, the student must register for the course online in the same way that he/she registers for any other course. It should be noted that even if a student is given an override, he/she will only be able to register for the course during his/her designated registration times. A student can see overrides in his/her Registration Status, which is found in the Registration Menu described above.
DegreeWorks Degree Audit
Undergraduate students will still be able to access their Degree Audit in the same way that they always have. You should take note, however, that spring courses for which you register will not appear on your audit as “In Progress” until we complete a DegreeWorks upgrade, which is scheduled to be finished in mid-January 2010. At that time, the Degree Audit will include all in progress courses.
***Graduate students do not currently have access to online Degree Audits.
