Management Class Connects with Distant Alumni
for International Business Lecture

RADFORD -- By combining technology and an alumni’s desire to share his experiences, members of Dr. Iain Clelland’s Management 428 class in the College of Business and Economics heard a “tele-lecture” by Luka Rister, RU MBA ’07, a Strategy and BI Consultant with Infodom, an IT provider based in Zagreb, Croatia.

The presentation, titled “International Strategy, Information Technology and Careers in a Global Economy,” was, according to Rister, “for those who are interested in working for a multinational company.” From his office in Zagreb on Monday evening locally, Rister spoke to the class in Young 406 at 1 p.m. ET. Rister’s virtual visit to RU was culmination of a joint effort by COBE, RU’s Office of Alumni Affairs and the Center for Innovative Teaching & Learning.

“By using this technology, we were able to reach out from RU to another part of the globe and enable our students to learn from a dynamic young professional who is competing and succeeding internationally,” said Dr. Clelland.

Rister cited three main prerequisites for a career in the global economy: interdisciplinary experience and skills, international travel experience, and an interest in the global economy, its politics and the changes going on in the global community.

Rister recapped Infodom’s latest regional growth initiatives in neighboring Bosnia and in Brussels, Belgium, the seat of the European Union (EU). According to Rister, the company’s expansion would help it better serve an underserved IT marketplace in Bosnia and to position itself for growth in the European market pending Croatia’s upcoming admission to the EU.

“This was an exciting opportunity for our students to experience business globally and is central to the COBE experience.” said Dean Faye Gilbert. “Luka’s willingness to reach out to the current students is one we hope other international COBE alums will embrace.”
