Renowned sculptor Betty Branch recently visited Radford University to talk about sculpture conservation and help restore “Torso Ombre,” a work in marble she created in 1988 that is part of the RU permanent collection and on display in the Sculpture Courtyard. Assisted by RU students in the Art Department’s Exhibition Fundamentals class, she cleaned and sanded the work to remove imbedded dirt acquired from many years of outdoor exposure. Branch is scheduled to return to campus this week so she and the students can  apply a museum-quality protective wax coating to the sculpture.
