RU VP for Student Affairs Norleen Pomerantz Announces Retirement
RADFORD -- Dr. Norleen Pomerantz, Radford University’s vice president for student affairs, has announced her retirement from the university. She will step down from her position in December, at the end of the Fall semester, and will be on leave for the remainder of the academic year. “I’ve enjoyed my ten years at Radford and am proud of what we’ve accomplished in my division for students,” said Pomerantz. “I’ve had the opportunity to work with many fine people here and it has been wonderful being a part of a university that means a great deal to me.”
Her areas of responsibility include the Dean of Students office, residential life and housing, co-curricular activities, student health services, counseling services, the university Police Department, and a variety of other student support services. From 1999 to 2005 she also supervised Radford University’s Division 1 Athletic program and from 1999 to 2007 she supervised the university’s admissions and student financial aid operations, as well as the office of the registrar. Pomerantz has served as the university’s official liaison to local community agencies and to the Radford City Council. She co-chaired the highly successful Highlanders Festival. “Norleen has been a wonderful member of our leadership team and all of us appreciate everything that she has done for Radford over the past ten years,” said Radford University President Penelope W. Kyle. “We are grateful for her many contributions, and we wish her happiness in her retirement.” The University will immediately launch a national search for a new Vice President for Student Affairs. Dr. Pomerantz said she is especially proud of several achievements and programs with which she has been affiliated throughout her years at Radford. She played an instrumental role in obtaining the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators’ prestigious New Professionals Institute at Radford University in 2006 and 2007, which brought student affairs professionals from colleges and universities around the southern United States to RU for intensive professional development workshops. She also developed a system for conducting a programmatic evaluation for student affairs programs at Radford, which led to a pedagogy that was so well regarded within the profession that Pomerantz was frequently invited to present workshops at regional and national professional development meetings. During her years supervising the office of admissions, she oversaw increases in both the number and the quality of university students, she said. She is also proud of the role she played in the development of Radford University’s first strategic plan for intercollegiate athletics, a process that led to a balanced athletic program that was in full compliance with Federal Title 9 provisions. Prior to her appointment at Radford University, Dr. Pomerantz served as Interim Vice President for Student Affairs and in other leadership positions at Northern Kentucky University and other institutions. She earned her B.S. degree at Appalachian State University, her M.A. degree at the University of Arizona, and her Ph.D at Cincinnati’s Union Institute and University. |
