RU Announces December Visual and Performing Arts Events
RADFORD -- Radford University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts will host a variety of programs in December and the offerings criss-cross all curriculums in the college. The schedule is as follows: December 3, 4, 5 -- Second Annual Tri-State Winds Festival, Douglas and Beatrice Covington Center for Visual and Performing Arts. Under the direction of RU conductor Wayne Gallops, the event features guest performers BayStreet Brassworks and the Virginia Wind Quintet of Richmond, along with select high school students from Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. The RU Wind Ensemble and BayStreet Brassworks open the festival with a concert at 8 p.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 3. BayStreet Brassworks, an award-winning quintet from Baltimore, Md., will join Gallops and the wind ensemble for a performance of Eric Ewazen’s Shadowcatcher. On Friday, Dec. 5, at 1 and 4 p.m., the wind quintet will join RU musicians and select high school students from the Tri-State region in two chamber wind concerts. December 5 -- Fall Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition, RU Art Museum Downtown, 1129 East Main St., Radford, and Flossie Martin Gallery, Powell Hall. Continues through December 20. Free admission. December 6 -- The Country Mouse and the Town Mouse, Pridemore Playhouse, Porterfield Hall, 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets $5 general public, $5 faculty and staff, $2 children and free with RU I.D. December 12 -- University Choral Ensembles Holiday Concert, St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, 631 North Jefferson St., Roanoke, 8 p.m. Free admission but a free-will offering will be taken to benefit Catholic charities. December 12, 13, 14 -- The Nutcracker, Bondurant Auditorium, Preston Hall; December 12 at 8 p.m., December 13 at 2 and 8 p.m., and December 14 at 2 p.m. Tickets $8 general public, $4 children, and free with RU I.D.
