English Department Accepting Essay Contest Submissions
RADFORD The Radford University English Department is taking submissions for the 5th Annual Scott Christianson Essay Award contest. The essay contest is open for unpublished works, including non-fiction, narrative prose, creative non-fiction, memoir, personal narrative, reflective essays and nature writing. All RU undergraduate and graduate students may participate. Only one entry per person is permitted. Essays should be printed, double spaced, on one side of the page. Participants’ names should appear only on the essay cover sheet, and not the essay itself. To enter, participants must submit three copies of their essay, along with a cover sheet, to English Department secretary Vickie Midkiff in Russell Hall 142 no later than 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14. Submission forms are available in Russell 144. Winners will be announced following the Thanksgiving holiday. First prize is $100, and second prize is $50. The Scott Christianson Essay Award was established in the fall of 2004 to honor the life and career of the late Scott R. Christianson, professor of English, and to recognize exemplary achievement by RU students in the genre of the essay. |
