Business Society Members Receive International Awards
RADFORD The Radford University chapter of the Society for Advancement of Management (SAM) recently received recognition and awards for excellence during the 2009 International Business Conference in Las Vegas, Nev. The RU chapter received recognition of its achievements during the 2008-2009 academic year by placing second overall in the small campus division of the Campus Chapter Performance Program. Judging in the category is based on chapter submissions documenting annual accomplishments. Among its activities in the past year, the RU chapter hosted professional speaker events, held fundraising and membership drives, completed several community service projects, and donated $500 to sponsor an RU scholarship. Three RU SAM members received an Outstanding Regional Student Award during the conference: Juliann Abercrombie, former club president and a recent graduate from Ashburn who was named Outstanding Management Graduate and the recipient of the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Service and Leadership by RU’s College of Business and Economics; Amanda Adkins, a graduate student from Fairlawn; and Lauren Gehrig, an alumna from Fredericksburg. SAM members are nominated for awards on the basis of professionalism, demonstrated leadership and individual contributions to SAM. SAM is the world's oldest professional management society with origins dating back to 1910. The society’s mission is to provide an opportunity for the members to increase management skills and expertise through participation in programs and services designed to improve the professional quality of their knowledge, performance and leadership ability.
