Social Work Students Receive Awards;
School Inducts New Honors Society Members

RADFORD -- Seven second-year students enrolled in Radford University’s Master of Social Work (MSW) program recently received awards from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VA). Katelyn Cox of Axton; Amin Faiz of Radford; Megan Franko of Roanoke; Katie Harbold of Woodbury, N.J.; Cheryl Ann McGovern of Christiansburg; Shenell Sowers of Baltimore, Md.; and Sade Younger of Fredericksburg each received a competitive educational stipend of approximately $5,000. Award winners receive a stipend while working in a specialty unit and studying a variety of social work issues.

On May 1, School of Social Work students Michelle D. Bates of Virginia Beach, Polly Jane Boone of Ferrum, Mary Leigh Capps of Roanoke, Sarah E. Griffin of Marshall, Kay Montgomery of Bedford, and Charlene Thepsimuong of Roanoke were inducted into the Beta Xi Chapter of the Phi Alpha National Honor Society. Phi Alpha fosters high standards of education for social workers, and membership is earned by excelling in scholarship and achievement in the field of social work.
